Cities in New Mexico
The cities in New Mexico all have their unique attractions and outstanding tourist facilities.
Well, not that outstanding. New Mexico is not exactly your average tourist zone. There are many good hotels, but most of them do not see too much activity.
Santa Fe is the capital of the state and has quite a high attitude… Literally. This city is the highest elevated state capital in the United States at an altitude of over 7000 feet above the sea level. This city is worth visiting due to its very beautiful historical buildings. Among these the one that stands apart is the Palace of Governors, which has the distinct honour of being one of the oldest landmarks in United States.
Albuquerque is a big metropolis and has quite a good tourist infrastructure as many tourists use this city as a base for their skiing trips. The city life is vibrant and the people are friendly. The prices are slightly higher than the average, but are still acceptable.
Las Vegas… Oh well, Las Vega deserves a site of its own. The gambling capital of the world, it is also one of the most visited cities in the United States. You can expect quite a lot of comfort and good services, but be careful of what you do in those casinos. It is a city appeared in the middle of nowhere and as a matter of fact I never recommend it as a visiting place, but somehow I feel that if you feel the need to go to Vegas you will eventually go there anyway. It's part of the city's charm I guess.
Need an out of this world experience? Then New Mexico has a bit for you. In fact a chunk larger than life. Confused? Think Roswell. This city is slowly turning into a pilgrimage city for all those passioned by extraterrestrial life and UFOs. One word of warning though… Don't expect too much out of this trip. The museums are nice and you will definitely meet some interesting people, but that's about it. Don't expect too see any small little green men, unless of course those made of plastic.
If the big New Mexico cities seem to leave you a somewhat sour taste , a vacation into the smaller ones might actually prove to be quite a delight. Cities like Carlsbad or Gallup are all small islands of peace and can easily be used as bases for hiking trips.
Given these issues I am sure that now you see why a visit to the cities in New Mexico is a must.
