Clovis New Mexico
Clovis is a city worth putting on your travel map.
This city is most famous for the Clovis Sound. If you don't know of what I am talking about start thinking about the 50s and 60s, Buddy Holly and Roy Orbison. this is the place where everything started due to the vision of one Norman Petty who established the Norman Petty Studios. The studios are available for visits and offer an unique insight into that era. This place is it. The feeling that this is the very place where rock & roll came alive haunts from the very moment you enter. Forget Motown this is the most authentic vintage recording studio you will ever find. The recording equipment and the vintage décor makes you feel like you have entered in a different era and that the musicians are only out to take a smoke. For all Buddy Holly fans this is a must visit as the vibes of his music cannot be stronger than in the place where the music was actually recorded.
Apart from the Norman Petty Studios, Clovis New Mexico is a beautiful small town and if you come in a vacation with your kids you will fall in love with it. The most picturesque zone of the city is the Zoo. Small and cozy it's a strange combination of your average small Zoo and a beautiful park. Your kids will love it and you will have the opportunity to take a well deserved break from the day to day stress.
The accommodations are quite affordable and of very good quality. The people are friendly and most importantly the traffic is virtually non existent. The New Mexico bright sun seems to be friendlier here and large parks can help you to finally get some relaxation.
Otherwise Clovis is also the place where you can set up some hiking trips in the surrounding area. Eastern New Mexico is quite rough so please if you intend such a trip make sure you make all the appropriate preparations.
