My favourite of all New Mexico ski resorts are the ones located in Taos. Why? You see the local authorities and retailers really try to set a higher standard than the usual. If on most skiing areas around United States you will see just a bunch of teenagers yelling, Taos has a more classy feel. This is I think the only location where snowboarding is banned from the ski areas. If you are a snowboarder this is bad news, but if you really enjoy the community of skiers who made this fascinating sport their lifestyle, than you will be in heaven. The local accommodations and the overall feel will make you want to be part of this community. You can meet here people who are skiing from quite a lot of time and which are deeply fond of their snow oasis.
But there is more to the ski resorts in New Mexico than the classy feel. The ski areas really can offer anything to everyone. If you're in love with cross country ski there is no problem, if you are a beginner you will find the perfect slope, if you are a professional who has seen it all you will find a challenge and if you want some skiing fun with your friends you will the place of your dreams.
The prices are actually quite low and if you take a trip in the mid March they will be lower still. One word of advice though, please take the time to make the appropriate reservations especially if you plan a weekend skiing adventure. New Mexico ski resorts are indeed friendly, but just as well they can be fully booked, so please take the time to call before to avoid some unpleasant surprise.
A thing that might annoy is the flash crowds that seem to happen every now and then. To avoid them simply start earlier than the rest, so when the crowd will be trampling to get on the ski area you will already be skiing. There are many good spots to choose from so don't be afraid to ask the personnel from the ski resorts to make the best choice.
Altogether New Mexico ski resorts are a real good choice for a skiing adventure so take a deep breath and get that ski equipment from your garage. It's time for a vacation.
